Henry VIII
Henry VIII was born in 1491.He was King of England from 1509 until his death in 1547. He is known for his political struggles with Rome. These struggles ultimately led to the separation of the Church of England from papal authority, and establishing himself as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. He did whatever is to be done to fulfill the desire to have a son to succeed him.
1- Katherine of Aragon – Spanish princess.The 1st wife of Henry VIII, married on 1509. She was his elder brother’s widow.Though many children were born, one daughter survived(Mary) .
2- Anne Boleyn – the 2nd wife of Henry, married in 1533 .Mother of Queen Elizabeth I.Anne was beheaded in 1536.
3- Jane Seymour – the 3rd wife of Henry, married in 1536.She died in childbirth in 1537. She and Henry had a boy named Edward.
4- Anne of Cleves – the 4th wife of Henry married in 1540 . She was divorced in 1540 and died in 1557.
5- Katherine Howard –the 5th wife of Henry married in 1540 . She was beheaded for having affairs in 1542.
6- Catherine Parr – the 6th wife of Henry married in 1543 .She had no children.Henry died in January 1547.
7- His son, Edward Vl ruled for 6 years after Henry's death.He became King at the age of 9 and died at age of 15. Henry's daughter Mary ruled for the next five years, but also died without children. Finally, Henry's last surviving child, Elizabeth I became Queen, and ruled for 44 years. :-))
