WHAT MAKES HIPPO'S MILK PINK ??

You must have heard in most of the Fact Sites that Hippo's milk is Pink, but ever wondered why ?
Well, here's the answer :

1-
Hippopotamuses have adapted to utilize two unique acid secretions in their skin.

2- The first is called "hipposudoric acid" and the second is called "norhipposudoric acid".

3- Since these are strong acids, they deter the growth of bacteria on the skin.

4- In addition, hipposudoric acid is colored bright red while norhipposudoric acid is colored bright orange.

5- The combination of these two acids provides hippopotamuses with a sunscreen effect because these colors absorb dangerous, cell-destroying ultraviolet light.

6- Hippopotamus milk is most likely pink due to the combination of these acidic secretions with off-white milk (red + white = pink).

‎★ Foxes are essentially nocturnal animals and are the smallest member of the dog family.

★ The most common species of the foxes is the red fox, which is about the size of a large cat. It is characterized by a reddish coat, a white underbelly and a bushy tail with a white tip, with some variations depending on the habitat. It is the largest of the fox specie.

★ The grey fox is widely found specie that bears resemblance to the red fox. It is slightly smaller and has a grey coat.

★ While the red fox prefers open country habitat for survival, the grey fox prefers dense areas such as forests to survive.

★ The world’s smallest fox is the Fennec fox, weighing a mere 3.5 pounds. It is normally found in arid regions such as deserts. It has an exceptional hearing capacity and can detect its prey moving underground.

★ Foxes are known to have both canine and feline characteristics. Even though they are considered to be a member of the dog family, they have feline characteristics such as vertically slit eyes and retractable claws. They are excellent tree climbers and also play with their prey before killing it, just like a cat.

★ The sexual maturity is attained at around 10 months of age. The female fox produces a litter with around 3-5 pups and has a gestation period of 50 to 60 days. The young of a fox is referred to as “kit”.

★ Foxes are known to use a wide range of vocalizations and pitch tones to communicate with each other.

★ The fox is considered to be a sacred animal in Japan.

Jaguar Vs. Leopard

★ These two spotted cats seem identical, but show distinct differences when viewed in comparison. Both species have distinct builds and generally differing coat patterns.

★ Both jaguars and leopards have very similar skin; however, the minor distinction is the jaguar skin’s rosettes are larger than the leopard’s.

★ More distinct differences are seen in the build of these two cats. The jaguar has an overall more muscular build. The body is compact, and the legs are more stocky than the more gracile leopard.

★ The jaguar's head is also more stocky, with a larger looking jaw and an overall more square appearance to the face. Below is a small table comparing the two cats:

Koala Not Koala Bear !

posted by Di-G on ,

Did you know that the "Koala bear" is not really a bear, but is really related to the kangaroo and the wombat.

The name Koala comes from an Australian Aboriginal dialect; it means “animal that does not drink.”Since koala mostly eat eucalyptus leaves, which provide them with the water they need, they do not drink water or rather, they rarely do.

English-speaking settlers from the late 18th century first called it koala bear due to its similarity in appearance to bears. Although incorrect, the name koala bear is still in use today outside Australia – its use is discouraged because of the inaccuracy in the name.
So next time you see a Koala , try calling it only "Koala" and not "Koala bear".

Koala bears are marsupials—which means they can carry their young in a pouch. The word bear was added to their name only because they look like teddy bears! They are not related to the bear family. Koalas spend most of their day resting or sleeping. They interact with other koalas very little.
Koalas are nocturnal animals. Daytime is their sleep and rest time.

Pigs have no sweat glands and, therefore, do not sweat. Pigs need mud on their body to cool themselves off (since they can’t sweat) and to keep bugs and other insects off their body.

Chameleons belong to the lizard family.

Their long tongues have a sticky tip to catch their prey.

Chameleons can rotate each eye in a different direction.

Their body temperature and emotional status are the factors that cause the chameleon to change its colors. The warmer or angrier the chameleon is, the brighter its color becomes.

Madagascar is the home of the worlds largest as well as the smallest chameleons. Almost half of the world’s chameleon species live on the island of Madagascar.

Emus and Kangaroos

Emus and kangaroos can't walk backwards.

Kangaroos cannot walk backwards because the shape of their body and the length of their strong tail prohibits them from being able to step backwards.

In addition, their legs cannot move independently on land, only when they swim. When walking, kangaroos support themselves with their front legs and tail while they pull their hind legs along. It is impossible for them to reverse this motion.

┗▶ This is also a reason, they hold the shield in the Australian coat of arms - A symbol of pride.
